The first day at FCCLA state leadership conference in Hot Springs was a great. Students started the conference by competing for nationals, opening session for state, and award dance for all the competitors. Today we enjoyed a general session, a keynote speaker, and wrapped it up with star event awards.

Softball schedule update - There will be no game tomorrow (4/7/23) at County Line and Monday's game will be at County Line at 4:30pm.
Recently our Jr High track team traveled to Waldron for the Jr. Bulldog Relays. Zane Smith came away with the High Point Individual award with a total of 43 points.
Zane placed in the following events:
-1st in 110 m Hurdles
-1st in 300 m Hurdles
-1st in 400 m Dash
-2nd in High Jump
-4th in 800 m Run

Graduating seniors who will be going to work after graduation are invited to a Job Fair on April 10, from 1 to 6 p.m. at the Cyclone Arena in Russellville. The QR code on the attached flyer go to a google document- registration form. The registration forms will be shared with the employers at the Job Fair. Pre-registration is not required, but recommended. The Job Fair is also open to the public.
Graduating seniors who accept a local job will be invited to Workforce Signing Day on May 5 from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m. at the Center for the Arts, next to Russellville High School. Please share this information with your teachers, staff, graduates, and parents. If you have any questions, or I can be of service, please let me know.

Due to the threat of severe weather, the junior high track meet scheduled for today, April 4th at Waldron has been rescheduled for Wednesday, April 5th.
State FBLA qualifiers attended the Leadership Conference/Competition today in Little Rock. Today they completed in person competitions, attended professional workshops, attended a college fair, and visited the campaign rally to speak to potential state officers. Tomorrow they will attend the awards ceremony to find out if any of them qualified for National Leadership Conference in Atlanta, GA this summer. This has been a great opportunity for our students!
My name is Gerald Haltom and I am the head trap coach for Johnson County Westside High School. Westside has had a trap program since 2018 and the first year Westside was involved we started with just senior division team members. The next year we added junior division team members. The trap program is divided into two divisions, the senior division (grades 9-12) and the junior division (grades 5-8).
Trap shooting is an expensive sport but through grants and fundraisers the school has been able to keep the cost to our students to a minimum. The grants have allowed the school to be able to provide all ammunition and targets for practices. It is best if each team member has their own 12 ga. or 20 ga. shotgun. Shotguns that have a release trigger or exposed hammer are not allowed. This year there is a $20.00 membership fee that is used to help cover expenses for the team..
Each trap team member must take and pass the Arkansas Hunter Education course to be eligible to participate on the team. If a student has not already taken the course, a hunter education class is offered at the high school each fall for Westside students only.
The school has its own trap field located at 1055 Hill Top Road, where all practices are held. The team has two trap machines so two groups are able to practice at the same time. Practices are currently held on Friday mornings beginning at 10:00 AM, weather permitting. The practice on April 7th will be held at the Arkansas Shooting Sports Complex in Jacksonville in preparation for the regional tournament on April 28-29. You are welcome to come and observe a practice.

Attention Juniors and Seniors: The Prom RSVP forms, the completed forms for out of school dates, and prom ticket money all need to be returned by April 6th to Mr. Haltom. If you owe any unpaid class dues, they need to be paid also.
April 6th is the DEADLINE for returning the RSVP card, date form, and ticket money if you want to attend prom this year. If you need to go past the deadline for any reason, see Mr. Haltom or Mrs. Lemberg by April 6th.
